THIS IS AMERICAN SINGLE
MALT WHISKEY
We took almost a decade to develop Clermont Steep, our first American Single Malt Whiskey. In a new-to-world, fast growing category, Freddie Noe started this experiment like he does with everything: right at home. Freddie reminisced about baking bread with his Granddaddy. There’s nostalgia in every sip of this category-defining liquid.
He started with a combination of Distiller’s barley and gold pilsner barley, and our trademark jug yeast to create the base of what would become our first ever American Single Malt whiskey. He then made an innovative, category-leading choice to age the barrels in a level 1 charred, new oak barrel to create a perfect environment to age our liquid. After 5 years, he had created a masterpiece that would make his grandaddy proud.
Clermont Steep is unlike any liquid we have ever created. You can still taste fresh-baked bread in every sip – like being transported to a Sunday afternoon with Booker Noe. You can also get notes of vanilla and caramel, and a unique cereal taste that can only come from barley. It’s s unique and complex liquid that’s best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but plays beautifully in cocktails like a Sidecar or The Clermont. Above all, it’s best enjoyed with friends who also want to discover something new in whiskey.
Clermont Steep is one of a kind. It’s a showcase to how we at the James B. Beam Distillery are moving the category forward. Everyone thought Booker Noe was crazy was he launched Booker's and Small Batch. We defied the world’s expectations then, and we’re doing it today with this new addition to our category-transcending portfolio.
